Akateemisia Faabeleita
Kreikkalaisen Aisopoksen faabelien taustalla oleva elämänkokemus heijastuu niissä eräänlaisena pessimistisenä elämänviisautena, maan hiljaisten käytännönfilosofiana. Harvoin niissä kiitetään rakentavia hyveitä, kuten ahkeruus tai rehellisyys. Pienten täytyy selvitä maailmassa joustavuudella ja oveluudella. Me haluamme esittää totuuksia nimenomaan sorrettujen ja väheksyttyjen äänellä. Haluamme faabeleissamme nauraa enemmänkin itsellemme kuin muille.
Työskentelemme kuvataiteilijoina ja tämän lisäksi yliopistonlehtoreina Tampereen yliopistossa. Elämä yliopistossa on jatkuvaa epävarmuutta, aseman säilyttämiseen liittyvää kilvoittelua. Aineistoa akateemisiin faabeleihin on vuosien varrella kertynyt runsaasti. Olemme työstäneet aineistoamme kuvallisesti ja esittelimme dialogissa syntyneet käsitteelliset taideteoksemme helmikuussa 2016 Berliinissä. Nyt teokset ovat nähtävillä Edusta Galleriassa.
Dialogi tarkoittaa meille yhteistä ideointia, toteuttamista ja arviointia siitä, milloin teos on valmis. Työskentelyä saman pöydän ääressä, toinen kätenä, toinen silmänä. Dialogi rakentuu toisen tahdikkaalle kohtaamiselle, kunnioittamiselle. Joskus joutuu myös jättämään oman ajatuksen odottamaan, viipyilemään mielessä tai työpöydällä. Haluamme yhdistää kahden kuvataiteilijan, taidemaalarin ja taidegraafikon vahvuudet ja heikkoudet.
Academic Fables
On the background of the Greek fables of Aesop, there is a life experience that reflects as a pessimistic life wisdom; as a practical philosophy of the meek. The constructive virtues such as diligence and honesty are rarely praised in the fables. The little have to survive in the world with flexibility and wiliness. We want to present truths particularly with the voice of the oppressed and undervalued. In our fables, we want to laugh at ourselves more than at others.
We work as artists and as University Lecturers at the University of Tampere. Life in the university is a constant uncertainty, a struggle to maintain one’s position. Material for the Academic Fables has been piling up during the years. We have worked the material into visual art works. These conceptual art works, which have come about in a dialogue, will be displayed in the Galerie Pleiku in Berlin.
For us, dialogue means shared creation, execution and assessment of moment when the work is finished. Working at the same desk, one being the hand and the other one as an eye. Dialogue is founded on tactful encounter of the other; respecting the other. Sometimes one has to also leave one’s own thought to wait, lingering in one’s mind or on the desk. We want to combine the strengths and weaknesses of two artist, painters and graphic artists. This is how m&p was born.
